West Greenwich, Rhode Island, is a small town in Kent County. Its population is estimated to be 6,528 by the 2020 census. It is named for the historic town of Greenwich, Kent, England. The town separated from East Greenwich in 1741, and is served by Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School.

West Greenwich is known for its trees. In the past, the city was a haven for those seeking a respite from the hectic city life. In the early 1900s, a man named W. Alton Jones owned a retreat in the woods off Route 102. Jones knew many of the state's movers and shakers, so the city's trees lent the town a renowned reputation.

There are a few historical landmarks in West Greenwich. In the late 1700s, the town had 2,500 residents, small mills along the stream and lots of agriculture. In the 1960s, there were a few houses and stores. The town center was quite small. The reservoir of the Big River was over the town at the time.

The easternmost part of the town is Greenwich Cove, which is the mouth of the Maskerchugg River. The town is surrounded by four hills. The town's boundary with North Kingstown is roughly marked by Frenchtown Road. The population of West Greenwich is 6,418 people. This has increased by 2.4% since 2020.

The historic tornado activity in West Greenwich is below the Rhode Island average and less than half of the national average. A category F4 tornado struck the town in 1953 and killed 90 people. About 17 people were injured. The damages were in the millions of dollars. The town is located in the state's second congressional district.

The weather in West Greenwich varies considerably throughout the year. The coldest month of the year is January.
